Don Huebner won a scholarship at the Institute of Fine Arts in Houston when he was 12 years of age and took good advantage of that four years of instruction and the twig was irrevocably bent toward creative endeavors.

Don served 3 years with the Marines in World War II - island-hopping across the Pacific Ocean, which fostered a desire to live in the islands of Hawaii some day.

In 1946 Don furthered his art education by attending the University of Texas as an Art Major.

In 1970, he moved to Hawaii and established a studio residence on a remote shoreline, where he worked full-time improving his creative technique over a 16 year period. It has been said that talent is nurtured in solitude. Living in a small beach-front cottage 40 miles from the city of Hilo only yards away from the surf, he had time to devote to reading and contemplating, allowing pure inspirations for writing and painting.

During this time he produced serious religious works that hang in churches and synagogues from Honolulu to Kansas City. Working in the isolated location as a recluse earned the sobriquet 'The Happy Hermit' for the artist and remains thus now back in 'civilization'.

Working in seclusion over the last 20 years, he has completed two extensive manuscripts which are now ready for consideration by potential publishers. An epic novel about World War II was created while living in Hawaii.

A nonfiction work was researched and recently completed in Texas. Ten oil paintings were created as illustrations for the latter work and are shown in this premier showing of the artist's personal collection offered here online for the first time to the general public.
