Stolen Stagecoach

Oil on Canvas

In February of 1868 fifty Lipan Apaches ambushed a coach just west of Ft. Clark and an all night battle ensued. The coach was escorted by a small group from Ft. Clark led by a Captain Cook. At dawn 200 more Indians were attracted to the fight and the defenders prudently abandoned the coach. The jubilant victors taunted the losers in English insults as they drove their prize away.
